EU commission imposed millions-high fines against manufacturers of fittings and sanitary-ceramic articles
In 2010, the EU Commission imposed antitrust fines of 622 million euros against 17 manufacturers of fittings and sanitary-ceramic articles. The subsequent complaint of the cartel members in the last instance was largely rejected by the ECJ in 2017. The damaged businesses can now claim damages.
Who has been damaged in this case?
Due to the bathroom cartel, numerous construction companies, tradesmen as well as plumbing retailers paid excessive prices for fittings and sanitary-ceramic articles, such as toilets and washbasins.
Which companies were involved in the cartel?
According to the EU Commission, in the period from 1992 to 2004, 17 manufacturers of bathroom equipment held the sales prices artificially high. The German companies Villeroy & Boch, Dornbracht, Duravit, Hansgrohe and Hansa were involved in the cartel.
What compensation amount is predicted?
The amount of compensation varies in each individual case. In principle, attempts are being made to determine the prices which would have been valid if the cartel had not agreed to the prices.
